Boston College will honor Sept. 11 hero Welles Crowther with new Red Bandana uniforms for the Eagles’ game against Massachusetts on Saturday.
The Red Bandana jerseys honor Crowther, who saved numerous lives as he got people to safety as they were stuck in the South Tower during the 9/11 attacks in New York City. He became known as The Man in the Red Bandana after a person witnessed his heroics.
Crowther played lacrosse at Boston College and was an equities trader for Sandler O’Neill and Partners.
The jerseys read “For Welles” on the back with a red bandana on them.
Crowther was known for wearing a red bandana all the time, including under his sports jerseys. His father gave him his first red bandana at age 6 after Crowther had watched him wrap a comb in one before church.
Boston College will wear uniforms that honor 9/11 hero Welles Crowther,
“We talk all about Welles and we talk all about the Red Bandana Game. How could we not wear those jerseys on 9/11 on the 20th anniversary?” Boston College coach Jeff Hafley said. “It was a no-brainer. We’re going to do that in honor of every single person that was affected by 9/11.”
