Award Winning Saddle Bronc Horse Medicine Women Passes Away 2021

The rodeo world has lost one of its best seat bronc ponies – Frontier Rodeo’s Medicine Woman. She was 19.

Medication Woman was the four-time PRCA Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year (2011, 2014-16) and the double cross seat bronc pony of the National Finals Rodeo (2010 and 2015). She resigned last year in the wake of contending at the 2020 Wrangler NFR at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Just ProRodeo Hall of Famer Descent of Beutler Brothers and Cervi has won more seat bronc pony of year praises than Medicine Woman. Drop won the honor multiple times from 1966-69, 1971-72.

“She was essential for the establishment that started us off around 18 years prior,” said Jerry Nelson, the proprietor of Frontier Rodeo. “She went to paradise to buck at the NFR. We feed in the nights and promptly in the mornings and at some point between taking care of the previous evening and 6 o’clock earlier today (Dec. 9) she died in Freedom, Okla.”

Medication Woman was a farm raised female horse out of Big Medicine (sire) and Showtime (dam). Outskirts Rodeo has won PRCA’s Stock Contractor of the Year seven years in line – 2015-2021.

“Medication Woman resembled one of the family,” Nelson said. “She was only a unique pony. She was not difficult to coexist with and she was delicate. She will be covered on the Frontier Rodeo farm in Freedom (Okla.). We will have a gravestone made.”

Medication Woman was chosen to the Wrangler NFR multiple times. Her first outing was in 2009 in the without any protection riding, she made her introduction in the seat bronc riding in 2010 and never thought back. She was chosen in saddle bronc riding from 2010-2020.

“We kicked last year, and we didn’t need to resign her, however she didn’t owe us anything any longer,” Nelson said.
